In 2001, DH and I realized we hadn't been to the start of the Iditarod in years. It was a beautiful day so off we went. We walked around looking at the dog teams and decided the Fifth Avenue Mall Parking Garage was the perfect vantage point to watch the teams take off. 69 mushers competed this year. Doug Swingley of Montana won the 1049 mile race in 9d, 19h, 55m, and 50s to win $62, 857 dollars and a brand new Dodge truck. I think if anybody finished the grueling race...they were winners! Thanks so much for looking.
