Those Holland people are so funny with the "dam" dollars but also they must have a scrapbooker on staff. The travel journal was the perfect gift for someone on a 113 day cruise. Since they are acid-free, will we be seeing the pages on your album? Love you included the trivia sheet.
Sunday, January 5th, 2014 - Nice day at sea; ate too much, did very average in team trivia and lost miserably in a word challenge game. Still a fun day.
Instead of giving us little pins and decks of cards and other items when we win at trivia, on the Grand Voyages and World Cruises the winners are awarded “Dam Dollars” (Some are printed with "Dam Dollars, Some are printed with "Grand Dollars"). Since the names of all the Holland America ships end in “Dam” (Amsterdam, Statendam, Oosterdam, Voldemdam, Veendam, Prinsendam, etc.) it's very clever to call them “Dam Dollars”. All the members on the first place team are given 3 Dam Dollars each, second place team members each get 2 Dam Dollars each and third place winners are given 1 Dam Dollar for each person on the team. This is not only used in trivia but for all the games on the ship. Sometimes they are awarded for just showing up at events. At the end of each segment of the cruise a store is open where the Dam Dollars can be cashed in for logo items like flash drives, cups, mugs, Holland America cookbooks, travel alarm clocks, Stieff teddy bears with the Holland America logo on the foot and other misc. items with the Holland America logo.
When we returned to our cabin after dinner not only was there a stingray towel animal waiting for us along with 2 chocolates, but nice cruise gifts for each of us – traveller's journals with a moleskin covers and embossed with the name of the ship. The books have a lot of sections: a daily journaling section, one for travel preferences, outings, a section for recording phone numbers and info, international time zone charts and an entire section of colorful pages of maps. Many pages have an area for attaching photos. They have 240 pages and I was pleased to see they were printed on acid-free paper. Already my mind is working on trying to figure out how to take them apart and use them in my scrapbooks!
