Use a mask
Journaling reads:This was the first year that Becky was going to wear a store bought costume. I pictured something pretty and girly but when I asked her what she wanted to be, she replied, “Scary”. She was drawn to all the menacing masks lining the shelves at Party City, but I was insistent that she not wear a mask. I did not feel it was safe to be out running around with a mask on. We compromised. She got a scary costume but we painted her face to go with it. I was surprised when she chose a devil. Out trick or treating, a neighbor commented that this costume was the opposite of her personality – that she should be dressed up as an angel. Becky was having none of that. Maybe her alter-ego was asserting itself on this day of masquerading.
