I have been wanting to really play with the Ken Oliver Color Bursts that I've had in my stash for almost a year (virtually untouched) and I finally got a chance to really test out some watercoloring techniques with them. I first practiced on a lot of small tags and then finally went for it with this larger page.
I heat embossed some Hero Arts Antique Rose stamps with white embossing powder and then wet down the various petal areas of the roses before sprinkling on Violet and Lemon Yellow powders. After that had fully dried, I wet down the background areas with water and used Yellow Ochre and Terra Verte to create a soft background with the impression of foliage. Moving the pigment powders with paintbrush gives you more control, but it's also fun to spray water on the page and see pigment crystals explode in surprising areas! :D
Color Bursts are very loose and not exact (which goes against my normal grain), but I LOVE the way playing with these pushed me out of my comfort zone, and the off splash areas (where the pigment granules stuck to unexpected areas) adds a fabulous artistic flair.
I'm hoping that after my vacation, I'll have a nice photo to nestle between the floral areas. :)
