I made this 2 pager for the Mississippi Memorial because of my DH - although he didn't live his whole life in Miss. he did go through high school there and graduate from Mississippi State Univ. We took lots of photos of the monument and I wanted the layout to be special. You might note a crack in the bronze - it was struck by lightening in early 50's and they did some repairs in '54.

The arrow is naked chipboard that I colored black with a sharpie. I also added a shadow to the title in Word. Older stash with some scraps. I stamped the words.

Journaling: It took decades for southern states to achieve the level of prosperity they enjoyed before the war. As a result many of the southern state memorials were built later than those from northern states. Many southern memorials, such as Texas and Georgia, reflect more modern artistic styles. The Mississippi Memorial was one of the first memorials built by a southern state.

The memorial is constructed of granite and is 76' high. Although the memorial was dedicated on November 13, 1909, the bronze work, fabricated in Rome, was added in 1912. The intricate bronze sculptures around the mid-section represent various actions of the Mississippi troops during the Siege of Vicksburg. The Greek mythological muse of history, Clio, centers the sculpture.
