I recently discovered a cool technique for using thin dies to both dry emboss AND heat emboss an image on the same surface. You need to be careful not to over-ink when applying the Versamark to the die and not to nudge it you when you place it on the cardstock but, apart from that, it's easy and really fun. Oh yeah, and you need an embossing mat to make it work.
I used a Stampin' Up die on this card for my friend, who'll be hosting me when I visit WA state next week, but I've tried it with all other brands of dies and it works great. Even if you don't have detailed dies, a grouping of nesting dies creates a nice background for a sentiment or other focal point.
Seriously, you have to try this: you'll become seriously addicted to it. For a video tutorial on the technique, check out Jennifer McGuire's blog or her YouTube channel.
