Beautiful lo. The story behind those photos I'm sure will not soon be forgotten. You have done a beautiful job detailing the events. Glad your grandparents were not hurt and are doing well inspite of everything they have lost.
Perfect title. I'm thankful for you too, that they are safe. We've gone to Louisiana twice to do relief work and have seen the results of the destructive forces of hurricanes and water. Homes and personal effects can be replaced, but people can't, so I SO glad your grandparents weren't harmed. Sometimes it's theraputic to scrap difficult events in our lives and you've done a beautiful job here. The Basic Grey is a perfect choice of papers because it has the distressed feel to it already. And your pictures ... wow... you have captured this (bad) memory so well. And your journaling makes us feel like we are standing in the front yard looking at the damage ouselves. Wonderful 2 page layout.
Wow Heather. Beautiful layout, but what a story. You do make it sound uplifting in that they are safe and evacuated in time. But so sorry for the losses. I'm sure your grandparents appreciate your telling the story, especially since your grandma shares you passions!!
OMG what a trrible thing to have happened, it really brings the disaster home on a personnal level when you see such devastation and realise that lives and homes can be destroyed so easily, what a fabulous job you have done on this page, fantastic lo for the challenge TFS :)
o.k o.k i admit it.... i do have a heart but shhhhhhh.....lol
ur layout and the love it shows is just awesome..... <huggs for ur family> i hope they know the love you show for them.
Wonderful lo, love the pp & colors, great quote for the lo, pics are great for recording this sad event. Great job on the challenge you did a fabulous job!
Wow Heather, that must have been hard to put together. The emotion just comes right out of it. Amazingly humbling pictures. Beautiful work. God bless your grandparents for what they have been through.
What a beautiful moving LO... seriously brought tears to my eyes! I love how you laid this out and numbered the photos & journaling. And I love that Robert Nathan quote!
I made it to the top ten in the *November Keyword Challenge* with this one!
These pictures were so hard to scrap. I've had them on my desk for over a year now and just now scrapped them. My grandparents house has always felt like home to me so when Katrina destroyed it I was heartbroken. They are rebuilding though!
The left side of this LO meets the Nov. Monthly Themed Challenge Recipe. There is/are 1 CS (matted pics), 2 PP's (divided down page), 1 quote (hidden under top left pic), 6 eyelets (on the ribbon holding up the tag and through the flowers), 3 flowers, 2 pieces of ribbon (holding up the tag) and 1 tag.
Quote reads: Give thanks for sorrow that teaches you pity and for pain that teaches you courage. Robert Nathan
Other journalling reads:
I am so grateful and thankful that Maw Maw and Paw Paw evacuated for Hurricane Katrina. They usually don't ever evacuate. The damage to their house was very bad. There were 18 feet of water in the house which means it was waist deep on the second floor.
The second page meets the criteria for the November Keyword Challenge.
The stickers in the top right corner read "Thankful" and there is visable journalling that reads:
1. After the water went down my grandparents were able To take pictures of the damage. Trees were uprooted and Other people’s homes were in their yard. (white house) 2. When they went in the house they saw that the water had Lifted the washing machine up and put it on top of the dryer. Look at all of the dirt and muck on top of the dryer. 3. My grandmothers craft room was destroyed. All of the debris You see piled up to the side is years of crafting work ruined. 4. The cinderblocks you see are where the house used to rest on It’s foundation. The storm picked it up and moved it five feet. 5. The taller structure is the actual house. There used to be a deck Attached to the second floor (That’s why there’s a door up there). It was completely destroyed in the storm. The smaller building to The left is my grandfather’s shed. When the house was lifted off The foundation it swung over and smashed into the shed.
And last but not least both sides are made out of all Basic Grey which qualifies it for the Basic Grey Challenge.
