I think it is so important for kids to have chores and things to do! And to earn money themselves - starting pretty young. Looks like your grandchildren are being brought up that way too! I had a game with my kids when it came to chores. I always told them, "clean your room and do one things to surprise me" or vacuum the house, load the dishwasher and do one thing to surprise me." I always included that last thing - and do one thing to surprise me. I figured it was easy for them to do what I told them to do, but in the real world, you have to look for things that need to be done and I wanted them to learn to look for doing what needs to be done, not just what they are told to do. When they were just little guys, I would go in their room and say, "Oh, you made your beds like you were told. What did you do to surprise me?" And they would say, "you are getting colder mommy, now you are getting warmer." I had to find the surprise chore they had done. Sometimes they cleaned under their bed - one time Joe took all the clothes out of his drawers and folded them neater. As they got bigger - there was always something they had to do - and something to surprise me. When they were about 12 - found they had taken every book off the big bookcase and dusted them and put them back. On time, I found they had cleaned all the ceiling fans. I kept that up until they were 19 and 21 and still living at home. Then they went to California to live with their dad for a while. It seemed to have worked - they both learned to look for what needs to be done, and not just what they are told to do.
Fantastic journaling, he should be a role model to all. Fun trees made of patterned paper and embossing folders. I really need to step outside the box and make fun elements like that.
Great layout!!! Eric sounds like an awesome kid!!! Working at a young age helps kids to mature and encourage them to succeed in the future!!! Great job Eric!!!!
I love the way you design each and every one of your pages! You always choose just the right accents and colors. The greens you chose for your sweet Doodlebug die cut trees pick up the greens in your photos beautifully. The bicycle die cut is such a fun touch! Your journaling is always impressive but on this page in particular it is expertly done. You certainly have a way with words and the way you recount the special memories associated with your photos brings the images to life. What a wonderful way to celebrate and recognize your son's dedication and hard work!
I LOVE your extensive journaling - a memory that will be treasured for sure! I love the little scene at the bottom of the page, especially the banana seat bicycle!
Photos from 1980. This is not very artistic, but I wanted to document the story of Eric with his bike (and his lawn mower). Tree die cuts are Silhouette files by Doodlebug.
