A wedding photo of my aunt and her husband who got married in January 1944. They got married in her homtown, although they were both living in Germany at that time. She was dressed in a dark blue dress because her brother died some months ago in the war. Friends told her not to marry in dark colours, because that would cause bad luck, but she did not want to get a white dress because of her brother and she did not want to wait for 2 more months until the year of grief ( a common thing at that time) was over. Right after the wedding her husband had to go back to war and only 3 months after the wedding she got a last letter from him, in which he told her they were closed in at a forest in Rumania, but he still hoped to come home soon. That was the last thing she heard from him, right after the letter he got missed and she never found, when an where he died.
I loved this aunt so much and I could see that she griefed her whole life. She never got married again and she had no kids, but she built up her own life and she was a wonderful aunt for all her nieces and nephews and a wonderful godmother for me.
