This is a two pager depicting our trip to the National Minuteman Missile Historic Site in Philip, South Dakota - or rather, more specifically, the Launch Control Center part of it. My DH had been wanting to go and in 2014, we finally managed it. His father was along on the trip and they were both especially interested in the information. My DH wanted me to go with the red, white and blue theme so I really did. It is run by the National Park Service now but used to be manned by the Air Force of course. I did hidden journaling behind the vertical row of photos on the first page.

I basically talk about what can be seen in the photos... the gate is the first photo. The next two photos show how the interior of the upstairs area was kept just as it was in the early 90's when it was deactivated. The horizontal row of photos shows the underground area of the site. The Domino's pizza door is shown in the first and last of these. The people there were obviously allowed to do some personalization of the place. The photo with the red chair the foreground shows the actual inside of the launch control area. And the photo with the control panel has a box on it that is a closeup of the one of the two locks which have had to have unlocked with one of two keys in order to start the launch sequence.

On the LO, I have included a raccoon. We go to SD a lot so differentiating the LO's for my different yearly trips seems to be easier if I feature a different mascot theme on each one/two pager, and it is kind of fun too I think.
