Hidden journaling:The second summer we were married, we’d had enough of orange barrel season in Michigan and decided to take our road trip through Canada. Jackie opted to go back to her mother’s rather than accompany us on our trip. We never even made it across the bridge before we had trouble. We had firewood in the back of the Yukon and apparently that is a “no-no” to carry across the border. When we pulled over to decide what to do, we discovered that one of the bicycles had broken out a window in the trailer. Home we went, where Carl fixed the window and unloaded the wood. Our second attempt at crossing into Canada was a success and we camped at a provincial park that night. We chose to cross back into the US at Niagra Falls. It was a little chilly and overcast while we were there, but we did go out on the “Maid of the Mist” for a closer look at the falls. Our next stop was Sea World in Ohio. Brett and Mary met us there with Christina and William. We spent that day exploring all the things Sea World had to offer, from the famous Shamu show to an aquarium to a bird show to a play area. There was something for everyone. One of the high points was the bird show. It was fascinating to watch. We might have enjoyed it more if we had arrived in time to have seats but then we wouldn’t have been close enough to the stage to get good pictures. All the kids (and Carl) wanted a picture taken with a bird sitting on their head. We went back to Brett and Mary’s house after that, and camped in their driveway. Our final day in Ohio was spent at the Cleveland Zoo. The Haubers went with us again. Between short legs in the group and long days leading up to this, we didn’t see a lot of the zoo. Becky’s priority was to see the lions (Lion King being her all-time favorite movie), so we did walk around the park until we found them. Other than that, the Rainforest House was the only other attraction we took in. On our trip home, we found that it was orange barrel season in Ohio just like in Michigan. Boy, were we glad to get home!
