How the war was won
the war was won by fighting men
and families doing without
people did what they had to do
that is what victory was all about
Every mother, every child
and every toddler knew
that things would not be the same
until the war was through
folks gave up what they had to give
and did not dare complain
for every piece of metal
might be needed for a plane
every drop of sugar
that the family did without
might sweeten the life of a soldier
thats what sharing was about
no matter what they did without
they would have done it all again
just so the war would end
and their men would be home again
the journal box says fall 1944
