This is my lo for the August Ugly Paper Challenge and the August Scraplift Your Favorites Challenge. I was inspired by the lo "Kindness" By: Stacy Cohen, which can be found here:

I wanted to use the "ugly" pps for the majority of the page. I did use 2 cs to mat the background and to add stability for the circle, weaving, stitching, and the weight of embellishments. I, also, use cs to mat the pics.

I wanted to do the lo like the original, but since I wanted to use the "uglies" and I needed to use the back of the octopus pp for the "trellis", I decided I could get a similar look by cutting a circle in the background pp, then cutting a slightly larger circle from the octopus paper to put behind the hole in the background pp. I cut strips from the octopus pp, but turned them over so the water/wave print on the back was what would show. I wove the strips over the large circle (of octopus pp) and adhered them. I outlined the edges of the strips with a white pen. I then adhered the large circle (with the trellis over it) behind the hole in the background pp and stitched around the edges.

I alternated pearl bling and white mini brads at the intersections of the trellis. I was going to use all pearl bling, but I didn't have enough AND I wanted to make sure the trellis wouldn't come loose over time.

I added layered flowers (I traced around the edges of the blue cs flowers with the white pen) and leaves. I added the title and "science center" around the circle, too. I added the red brads to "science center", because the "Explore" had a lot of red and I didn't want the "science center" to get lost in the background. I added the shoe brads at the bottom of the circle...the reminded me of dd's shoes and because we walked A LOT during our visit to the Science Center.
