Close-up of the dream catcher webbing.

Traditionally, dream catchers are handmade of a wooden hoop with a type of netting material for the web and hung over the cradles of babes as protection. They are typically decorated with sacred items such as feathers or beads. It was said that the web, deliberately resembling a spider's web, "caught any harm that might be in the air, the way a spider's web catches and holds whatever comes in contact with it."

While I have no claim to the Native American culture (far from it, I'm Scandinavian by heritage!), I grew up in Seattle, a city that prides itself on a significant cultural Native American influence (even my beloved Seahawks' original mascot logo was loosely based on Native American art). I've always found them so beautiful and that's what prompted me to try making them.
