Hello everybody! So posting this card and tag catches me up on uploading my projects! So the next one will be the African card I'm working on now... but that is totally off topic. Anyways, so this is a card I made for a woman I grew up with that's like an aunt to me. We unfortunately haven't talked in years, I suppose due to my own choices in many ways. It's so frustrating that we can go down certain paths in our early youth and look back and say "what was I thinking?". Still, if it weren't for those choices I never would have truly discovered myself and learned to accept who I am in full. I have kept tabs on her and how she's been doing through (I hate to say this) the hearsay from other people. For a long time my mother kept me informed what was happening with her, but when she got so sick and started having the seizures (which really affected her memory... especially her short term memory) they stopped talking. Not really sure why any more, but point being I thought it time to reach out and let her know I still think about her and her family on a daily basis... after all in many ways they are my family. Silly the things that come between the most important relationships in our life.
So the base is made from the white pearl silk cardstock I am so found of. I buy that on LCIpaper.com, they have a really nice selection especially of heavier weight cardstocks. Then all the paper in this card is either American Crafts Textured Cardstock or Graphic 45 Portrait of a Lady 8x8 paper stack & the 12x12 Patterns and Solids collection. Now I always do the inside of my cards first, so if you're interested check out the notes on those to see what I did.
Back to the front, the first paper is a forest green diamond pattern from the Graphic 45 Portrait of a Lady 12x12 Patterns and Solids collection. So next I actually created the fan, which did not come out like the sketch ugh... it was supposed to look like a curtain (with a hard to see transition between the papers) but I forgot to calculate the physical element of the paper curving into the equation. So it became a fan instead. Next, I used another sheet out of the Portrait of a Lady 12x12 Patterns and Solids collection, a peach patterned paper watermarked with posies. I misted the sheet with water and began creasing it. then set it aside and let it dry. The next layer I started with was a pinker peach Baroque Damask patterned paper from the Graphic 45 Portrait of a Lady 8x8 paper pad. I distressed the edges with Versa Magic Cloud White chalk ink and with a combo of the Prima Distressing Tool and Tim Holtz's Distressing tool. I get a little bit of a different effect with each and sometimes I like to use both. The Tim Holtz's distressing tool I find pushes the edge of the paper upward and rolls it, while the Prima tool tends to just tatter the edge.
Next I created misting sprays with Umbrella Crafts reinkers in Evergreen, Coral and Peaches & Cream and Ranger's Mini Mister bottles. Then I gently marked the damask paper where the fan would sit on the card and used the misters to accent the area. Next a took a light weight cardboard (which I have no idea where came from)and cut it to size. I used my new paper trimmer which is a Carl 15 inch heavy duty rotary paper trimmer. I LOVE IT. It cuts everything just beautifully and it cut that cardboard like it was butter. The blades are easy to switch out which is nice if you like to use a scoring and/or perforating blade. Any way (enough with my sales pitch right), I cut the cardboard about 1/8 of an inch smaller than the peach watermarked paper that would covered it up. Then I took a very deep breath and cut two holes (in the peach watermarked paper) on either side of where the fan would sit, then distressed the inside of the holes with Tim Holtz's distressing tool. I rolled the edges upward a little more with my fingers using a little bit of water. Then I marked the cardboard for where it would show through. I misted that area of the cardboard with water and gently peeled away the top layer leaving a little bit behind for added effect. Then I poured some gesso into a cup and added some of the Coral and Peaches & Cream ink to it (just enough for a nice hint of color) and painted the cardboard. I misted the cardboard with the Evergreen, Coral and Peaches & Cream spray. I then used Tim Holtz's mini stencil collection set 4, specifically the branches stencil and stenciled Prima's White Crackle Paste in a reversed setting of where the fan would be (as usual quite a bit got covered up) on to the damask paper, then on the painted cardboard. Next I used the square stencil out of Tim Holtz's mini stencil set 9 and started with the Cloud White chalk, then continued the pattern with Tim Holtz's Victorian Velvet, then followed by his Dried Marigold.
Next I highlighted the top of the mountain folds and the top and bottom edges of the fan with the Cloud White chalk ink. I taped the cardboard and damask paper together, then taped that down to the top of the card, then glued the fan in place. Then I took a sheet of cream with Forest Green writing from the Patterns and Solids collection and used the next to the smallest die out of Spellbinders Opulent Ovals collection. I got the cameo and setting from ChasingTheSpark on Etsy, put them together and glued them down to the die cut and glued the die cut to the fan.
Then I took the resin lamps (which I got from TheCozyCraftShop on Etsy) painted them silver and distressed them with white craft paint and then dry brushed them with silver again. They were then attached to the upper corners of the card.
Only the two center flowers are Prima's French Riviera flowers. Everything else (flower wise) came from either TheShabbyHorseCafe on Etsy or mulberrycrafts2012 on Ebay. The crown is from Prima's Memory Hardware French Regalia: Crowns II, the bottles are from Tim Holtz (I took a risk and filled them with water),the tokens are also Tim Holtz's and are from his Typed Tokens collection, the large key I got in a collection from Amazon, and then the rest of the charms and European style beads are all from my own hoard. I used stamens for the berry effect, some freshwater pearls and some cheepie peal beads hither and thither. The family embellishment is from hobby lobby. Then I used Prima Art Stones and Mini Art Stones here and there. I also used so cheese cloth in a couple of places.
I printed and cut the Butterflies with my Cricut Pro Air. I used Morton's Fine Sea Salt for part of the glitter and then Martha Stewart's fine glitter in Crystal. The crystals are Swarovski crystal which I'm disappointed in because they don't shine all that more than the cheap rhinestones that I have... I think it's the cut. Then I used peach stamens for the antennae.
