Journaling reads:
In the summer of 1991 we provided name tags for several florist conventions along the east coast. We made a summer of it and took the girls on a road trip. One of those conventions was in July in Greenville, S.C. The highlight of the weekend was an optional Saturday evening trip to the Woodfield Inn in Flat Rock N.C. We were loaded in three charter buses for the trip. The historic inn offered tours, dinner, and hot air balloons “rides”. Jim took the girls up in a balloon while I kept my feet firmly on the earth, and my camera firmly in hand. At the end of the evening we enjoyed a very nice play at the little theatre on site. We’d had a lovely day, but during the play the rain started to come down by the bucket. The buses had dropped us off and parked on the side of the road - the dirt road. One of the drivers was apparently parked in the bar most of the day, and when attempting to retrieve the bus, got it stuck in the mud in the ditch. The police were called, along with a tow truck, and the driver was taken to jail. That left us with three buses but only two drivers. The two drivers took the families and elderly back to the hotel, while volunteers waited for a new driver to come for them. The theatre crew entertained those who stayed behind. Even though the girls and I went back with one of the first buses, we were hours late returning and it made for a very long day although memorable day.
