We live in a wild fire danger zone, as well, and my husband's nephew has been serving with the forest service fire fighting crew for three years, now. Also, my first husband was a firefighter, so I share your understanding and appreciation from all perpectives for what these volunteers do. So glad the cinder damage was not severe. This is a wonderful page and a beautiful tribute to a brave group of people, and your son especially.
God bless your son Kathy! I also have family members that are fire fighters. They put they life on the line for us. This is a wonderful tribute to him.
What a great page, and a great story. One of my nephews is a forest firefighter here and goes all over the country to help fight some very bad, very bad fires. He is a remarkable young man just like your Patch. It's wonderful that there are so many like them to keep people and their possessions safe. A great tribute to him, although the challenge in and of itself sounds difficult.
The gears on this are just perfect! I enjoyed reading your story. Just looking at the pics freaked me out but then I read about the controlled burn and I thought "phew!" But then you read on and you realize what he's been through and wow, just wow.
I love the information on this page and the tribute to fire fighters. My husband and I were fire lookouts on Mt. Harrison the first year of our marriage. We saw way too many range and forest fires.
What a wonderful tribute to your son! Beautifully created with amazing pics. Thank God he wasn't injured badly & a salute to all our fire fighters throughout the world!
What a fabulous layout! The background caught my eye with its stark black and white theme that makes the brilliant photos just jump off the page!! I love your use of so much black on embellishments! Stunning!! What a sweet story, glad your son is OK... also glad to read that it was a back burn and not the start of a raging fire! Thank you for your service Patch.
We're lucky to have one of the rural fire stations right around the corner from our house. Western Oklahoma is pretty much on fire at the moment - something like half a million acres. Fire is SO terrifying because it's just voraciously hungry and travels SO fast. I am thankful for fire fighters who are willing to stand in harm's way armed with only a water hose and courage and battle it out. Thank your son from me for his sacrifice and willingness to be one of those on the front lines of community protection.
I have family and friends who are forest fire fighters. Thank Patch for his service in putting his life to save lives. You made quite a tribute to him in your page. Love the green touches especially the strip journaling. So heartfelt.
What an incredible story here!!!! You've created a wonderful salute to all the brave men and women whose lived are devoted to saving others; with the layers of gears, bits of branches and wonderful journaling!!!!
I am so glad these brave fire fighters was able not only to save the homes of others, but the military hospital is excellent work to show the dedications of firefighters to give their all and beyond. Thank God the eye is healing
Made for the Anything Goes Challenge. This week had to incorporate foliage, blue, green and brown for a garden challenge. Whilst not what everyone would expect it does have gum trees and grass. We also had to toss a coin to decide if it was a layout lift or a sketch lift. Luckily for me it was layout. I chose Alet Camarinha’s A boys story. I had to have flowers and leaves and transparencies. The flowers are transparent luckily! The words on the photo are from Dorothea MacKellar’s famous poem - My Country. The journaling reads: Thank goodness for the Firies! Tall gums, leaf litter and long grass. A firefighter’s nightmare every summer. Here Patch was backburning to help avoid the devastation of another bushfire during fire season.
Just yesterday she was saluted fighting one of Sydney’s biggest fires for the season. 100km of bush that burns still now. 14 hours of fighting to save houses and a military hospital. He took embers to the eye and whilst not injured badly, he is recovering and so proud that they lost no homes while he and his crew defended Street after Street. Thank goodness for the bravery of these volunteers and may he always love the life he has chosen. He is one of the unsung heroes that volunteer to keep the rest of us safe from the beauty and terror of this great land - Australia. Also entered into die cutting, scraplift your favourites and journalling challenges.
