The way I heard it was that the Siler children loved their Easter chicks. Sadly, Paula accidentally stepped on Rand's when she was coming out of the playhouse. Plotting his revenge, the young man dug a hole on the exact spot where his little one met its demise, and he filled it with water. Capturing Paula's precious little chickie, Rand began rolling it in and out of the water, and it opened its little beak repeatedly gasping for air. Fortunately, the chick was rescued before the revenge was complete and lived to enjoy a good life. Forever after, though, the story was part of Siler Lore, and was told each Thanksgiving as the family gathered and shared memories. They laughed until they cried as they described the chickie who survived.
