My mom was a "wedding baker" before she got married. They still have it there in the region of Austria ( Südburgenland) where she grew up. Ladies who loved to bake where hired to bake for the weddings, and they still bake there like crazy. They bake unbelieveable amounts of cookies and cakes and they bake for weeks to get it done. When my mom was young, every woman who did that had her own wedding cake, that only she made. This one was my mom's. She called it "Kaiser Wilhelm Torte", no idea where it came from. It is made with 3 different doughs and 2 different fillings and it is rolled up. I think it looks just beautiful. The recipe is given only to special people of family and friends. My mom made hundreds of these cakes in her lifetime and she also made one for me when I got married. It did not turn out as beautiful as the other ones, but it was delicious. I made one for my daughter on her wedding day and it did not turn out that beautiful either, but it also was delicious. So when I told my daughter that I was not happy with it, she only said: I love traditions! - The tradition of Oma's wedding cake and the traditon of not being able to make the perfect cake for your own daughter :)
