Very pretty! Of course, for me, anything with purple is pretty, but this card is gorgeous! I don't think I've tried coloring on the back of vellum before. If I ever get around to actually making something again, I'll have to give it a whirl. Mmmm...fussy cutting. My idea of relaxation therapy. :>)
I found this beautiful wrought-iron gate die by Spellbinders and had to make a card for it. It's big (3.5"w x 5.5"h), so it needed a 5 x 7 card. It called out for a climbing plant or vine but I wanted the embellishments to enhance, not distract from it. I also wanted to learn how to heat-emboss and color on vellum and this seemed like the perfect design opportunity.
There is a Heartfelt Creations paper in the Burst of Splendor series, released in 2013 and since discontinued, that was my inspiration for this design but I didn't have any more and couldn't easily acquire it, so I Photoshopped and shaded a damask background, then printed that and the sentiment, from my computer. I wanted the vine to be a separate embellishment but didn't have a vine image per se, so I used a large scroll from one of my Tim Holtz Bigz dies and trimmed it up, then used Copic markers to give it some woody texture.
Now comes the fun part! I recently learned that you can actually stamp and heat-emboss with Ranger Distress Inks since they stay wet for a little bit and are sticky enough to hold the embossing powder. So I tried it and I'm loving the results! The best thing about this is that you don't have to have every color of embossing powder - just stamp in the color of distress ink you want your outline to be, then use clear embossing powder, heat it, and there you go! How cool is that?! Then I used Copic markers to color on the backs of the vellum leaves and flowers and used a little clear Wink of Stella on the front of the flowers only, for some shimmer. I'll definitely be using this technique to make lots more vellum flowers, in different shapes and sizes, for embellishments.
I didn't have dies for these particular flowers and leaves, so I had to fussy-cut them, which I don't enjoy, but the end result was worth the time and effort, I think.
