What an amazing place to spend some of your summers at as a family. You remembered quite a lot of all the adventures and scenerios you had. That is super crazy how you were treated for the nail in your foot. I had no idea that mud would heal a puncture wound. I wonder if it had to be a specific soil? The toad escapade is hilarious. LOL! Beautiful phots to capture the lake and using a pic of you to tie it all together to make this layout.
wonderful memories Susan! I had to laugh abut the doctor. It brought memories of my grandma's home made remedies. You have inspired me to document some of my child hood memories, even if I don't have pictures to go with them
I absolutely loved reading your memories from your summer trips. My dad is a big Ham Radio Operator and when I read that Guy had found a group, all I could think was 'boy, we wouldn't have seen dad again until it was time to go home! LOL
Childhood memories wonderfully retold in this FABULOUS lo. I love the way you grouped the photos, leaving plenty of room for all the journaling. This is a FABULOUS lo for your BOM album.
The story about the nail and the country doctor is so funny. Not for you but the whole memory. Your page inspired my own memory of my beloved Grandparent's home with the screened porch and all the memories we had there. Your layout is beautiful and so inspiring. I'm thinking this one is your best!!! What a great photo of you.
Oh Susan this is a beautiful page, I am loving reading those memories. And you know (in my opinion) you didn't even need those pics of the lake, This is truly wonderful and what a sweet pic of you.
What sweet memories Susan - except for the nail! I'm sure that hurt! Never heard of packing injuries in mud and wrapping in plastic (in your case, a Wonder bread wrapper). Our mind is so funny with the things we remember. Fun to get with others with the same shared experiences from way back - I find my brothers and mom and each retained different memories so when we talk about something there is a lot of, "Oh yeah, I forgot about that!"
I did this for my BOM album and for the Summer Childhood challenge. I don't have any pictures from these vacations - my brother took pictures/slides but I don't have them. Took photos that looked familiar from the Web of Moosehead Lake. The picture of me is the right age 4-5 years.
Simple page - Paper House pp, Pinkfresh enamel dots, ink, navy cs.
Journaling: For 2 summers ('54-'55 or '55-'56), our family rented a house in Maine on Moosehead Lake. Mom, Guy and I would spend a month there and Dad came up for a week. Because I was so young, I only have fleeting memories but I do know that I enjoyed it. Some things I remember * The house seemed large to me with a 2 story living room and fireplace where we popped popcorn. * The master bedroom was downstairs with 3 bedrooms upstairs on the lake side. * It had a screened porch on the lake side that went the width of the house. We would eat out there some days. * My brother, Guy, and I sat on the steps and fed chipmunks. It took a while to get them to take peanuts from our hands. * The house was on the lake with a dock and a small motor boat we could use. We had to go across the lake in it to get drinkable water. * Guy used the boat for fishing and wasn't very successful. I only remember him catching one fish. * One morning I saw a moose standing in the trees by the lake. He was huge! * The lake water was icy cold but I still went swimming. The water was clear and it had a rocky bottom. * Running back to the house one morning from the small beach, I stepped on a nail that was sticking up in a piece of wood. Mom had to find a doctor to see me. It was on a Wednesday when many of them closed their offices to go golfing. She found an old country doctor. * The doctor looked at it; went out the back door and got some dirt; combined it with water to made mud; slapped it on the bottom of my foot; wrapped it with an old Wonder bread wrapper and then gave me a tetanus shot. It healed just fine. * One day I caught a frog and put it in my plastic pail thinking it was toad and wouldn't hop out. I then brought it into the kitchen to show my Mom. It hopped out of the pail and we had to spend time trying to catch it. * The second summer Guy found a Ham Radio group to spend time with. He took me with him one day to the top of a tall mountain while they used their radios. * That second summer we all took a float plane ride over the lake.
