We arrived in Venice on Wednesday (via Atlanta and Amsterdam, so much walking in airports). Our hotel in Murano offered a free shuttle, wonderful once we found it. Though Venice had badly flooded on Monday, we arrived in sunshine, took a short nap, and then explored (had never been to Murano), buying a few small gifts and eating a delicious Italian meal.

Thursday we bought our water taxi ticket and set out for the Venice cruiseport, leaving just before the route was stopped because of flooding. The next two hours were awful–searching our way, dragging suitcases through flooded walkways, even over the Rialto bridge (later we learned a route was open that stopped near the port). After a nap and dinner, we set out from the ship, this time to see St. Mark’s square, still flooded but enjoyable. Going back to the ship, we hit a final snag–the people-mover to the port had closed early. So more walking, though the walk is picturesque. Friday Wayne went back to the city for more exploring–Bev rested. And that started our four-week cruise Venice to Miami!
