Back to Beauvoir pictures. This was while we were waiting for our tour top begin. cs - American Crafts, pp - Lawn Fawn, Basic Grey, Kaisercraft, alphas & numbers - Jillibean, gold accents - American Crafts and ? (gold flowers), key - K and Company.

Journaling: As we sat waiting for the tour, we gazed out to the Gulf. It was a beautiful day & the waters of the Gulf were calm. It was hard to imagine its destructive force during Hurricane Katrina on Aug 29, 2005.
The 24 foot storm surge destroyed the 2 pavilions on either side of Beauvoir and ripped off the steps and the front & side porches. The back porch collapsed as 31 of 62 brick piers fell. Waves of over one foot entered the house causing the furniture to float and strike against the walls. Paintings & artifacts fell into the water.
Reconstruction was lengthy and expensive. Renovation sought to return the site to an interpretation of the period of the Davis family occupancy. Beauvoir House reopened on June 3, 2008 - the 200th anniversary of Jefferson Davis' birth. Amazing what they got done in less than 3 years (had to correct this on page). We are lucky to be able to see Beauvoir- some places along the coast have never been rebuilt!
