This photo doesn't do this justice - if I may be so bold, I think this might be my favorite thing I've ever made. There's so many layers and different shades of tans, browns, coppers, metallic paints...it's eye candy to me. Anyhoo, I used acrylic paints on canvas, stencils, and rings (rings made using the empty leftover plastic thing from Scotch tape and dipping it into dark brown paint). Used gesso to prep the canvas then the Dylusions Custard paint to make all of the background non-white then let dry fully. Then I used my fingers to put down various shades of browns, golds, coppers then used my pods stencil (stencilgirlproducts.com) and wiped away all of the browns to have the custard color peeping through, then added a bit of gold and brown paints back in. Not sure why but this process brings me enormous satisfaction. Did the same with the other stencils. I am hereby on the bandwagon for the Dina Wakley paint “Night”. It adds a little something wonderful to everything, and I must agree with her that it is just better than black. Not as harsh.
We here in Panama City have had quite a time since hurricane Michael hit and our Principal has led us all with incredible strength, kindness and wisdom. And all while dealing with enormous challenges (yes, it's been seven months since the hurricane and the repairs are scheduled to start “soon”). So, for teacher appreciation week, I wanted to make him something that might remind him he has made an incredible difference.
Hope this finds you all blessed!
Debbie
