9”x9” wall hanging made with watercolor paper adhered onto chipboard. Acrylics, stencils, ghosting technique with baby wipes and used an old gift card dipped in paint to make the lines. Stamped the Dina Wakley bird onto watercolor paper, painted him, then cut him out and adhered him onto some tan cheese cloth and newsprint tissue with Multi Medium.
Stencils are from stencilgirlproducts.com.
Ribbon “hanging” is seam binding I sprayed with Dylusions ink sprays then scrunched. Used T. Holtz Multi Medium to attach the piece to a large sheet of chipboard, then used brads to secure (and to add some metal texture).
I titled this “Discoverings” on the back because painting has become such a lovely discovering process for me and I thoroughly enjoyed making this one.
I gave this to my nephew Chris because when Hurricane Michael hit our town, we were unable to get to my Mom in her nursing home due to downed trees every ten feet, we're on the opposite side of the town from her, and we were closer to the worst part of the hurricane.
So he, his wife, and best friend drove over from an hour and half away, drove into the impact area as far as they could, then walked as far as they could, slept at a stranger's house due to a curfew being imposed by the police, then waded through waters to get to her. They also had no cell phone service to use maps so had to try to find the correct location by asking strangers. They then aided the nursing home staff with all of the residents (opening doors to cool them, serving everyone water, etc.) until help was able to arrive (get through all the downed trees) and take every last resident out of there to safety. After his best friend left with my Mom on a bus to take her to a nursing home an hour away, my nephew and wife even stayed behind to help with those that were bedbound, until every last resident could be moved to safety. This story ended up in the local papers but needless to say, I am forever grateful to him for being there for my Mom when we couldn't be due to being victims from the hurricane ourselves. I hope and pray God will bless him for their heroic moves for his Grandmother/my Mother. My Mom passed away last week, after a very long fight with Parkinson's, so this has been a difficult yet joyful time for us. Difficult because we love her. Joyful because she is finally out of pain and going to a much much much better place.
Blessings to you all,
Debbie
