This explosion box card is for my Dad for Father's day. I started out with a completely different vision in mind. I actually wasn't going to create an explosion box card at all but along the way, inspiration took hold and this is where I ended up, lol. I first created my four outer scenes for the inside using prints and mini icon stickers from Doodlebug design's Down on the Farm collection. I paired a 'Dad' with his little one, on each one. I then created my base and started on the center square. I wanted a place to add a gift card and message. The bottom portion of the scene built around the gift card holder is hinged and lifts up to make it easier to access the card and underneath, I will write my message. The little country girl looks a lot like I did as a kid. (She's just missing my freckles:) I think my Dad will get a kick out of it. Lastly, is the box that slips over the card when it's folded up. I thought it would be fun to create a little barn to continue the farm theme. I made an open bottom box in the dimensions I needed, then added a front and a back piece with a peak for the roof. I then inked and affixed strips of red cardstock around the entire box. Next, I made the door. Before adding the roof, I added support pieces to give me something to adhere it to. The last step was to add a few pops of color with the grass, flowers and chicken (there's also a little mouse sitting in the grass along the back).
