I have tried to scrap this photo several times but it never came out like I envisioned. This time was no different but better than the previous attempts.

The birds represent a White Bird Release. If you've ever been to a funeral that included a bird release you know how beautiful and moving it is. (If you have never seen a Bird Release before and want more information contact me.)

My dad gave the little locket to my mom before he was shipped out with the Merchant Marines in 1946. Inside mom put a tiny picture of dad.

The hidden journaling is a pull-out strip that slides easily back behind the LO into a tunnel attached to the back. The journaling is as follows:

There are moments, days and/or events in everyone's life that are very special and bring back memories. For me, my wedding day, the births of my children and taking this photograph are among those I'll never forget.

My parents were going to take Grandma Florence back to her home in Florida and Dad asked me to go with them. They were taking the RV and would be camping on the way down and on the way back. I hesitated but Sherman said go; he would take care of the kids. So I made several meals, even though my husband is a very good cook, and froze them with labels with cooking directions and went.

One evening driving on the beach road south of Bradenton, the sun was setting and it was so beautiful I wanted a picture. Dad pulled the camper into one of the parking spaces and he and I climbed up the small mound of sand and over beach debris until I found just right spot. We got down on our bellies so I could have the perfect shot. So even though you can't see either one of us, every time I look this photo I remember Dad.

One year later almost to the day, my dad died. He was 53. This page was made in memory of Roy Edward Kingery and the beautiful memory this photo invokes is the reason it will be the first page in my heritage album.
