Vince and I decided that we wanted to get another dog. We wanted and a large Pomeranian or an Eskie if possible. We looked on Petfinder and found some but all the dogs we found were either too far away (Texas) or would no adopt out of state. We were starting to get discouraged.
A friend of mine on Facebook posted a link to a rescue group and I followed the link. After perusing the links, I discovered a little dog that looked like an Eskie mix named Chop Suey. I decided to fill out an application. We were approved for adoption. We were warned that he was very shy around strangers. His family had dumped him at the local shelter and then REACH rescue pulled him. In the course of the conversation with the women from the rescue, we realized that he was smaller than we wanted and younger than we wanted but we decided to go and meet him anyways.
When we met Him, we could not pet him, we had been warned not to push him and we didn’t. He did come up and lick my hand in passing and Vince’s arm as if to say you are alright but do not pet me yet. The on rule we had about any dog we adopted was that Blossom had to approve. So, we brought her to meet him. He was nervous of her at first and would not approach her. I think he was intimidated by her size and confidence. She does walk into a room as if she owns it. She watched him for awhile and then se decided she wanted to play.
She puppy bowed at him (which she pretty much never does) and wagged her tail. He decided that maybe she was alright and so he came over to say hello. They started to play and at first, she was a little to forward. He scolded her saying hey I am a little guy be careful. She understood and did not get mad but just dialed it down being more careful. They continued to play. Vince and I were amazed as we had never expected that. We wanted her to like the new dog but never imagined that she would become instant friends with it.
We told REACH we were wanted him. There was another family interested but they said would let us know either way. They chose us and we brought him home 07/05.
Vince went and picked him up after work and I went during the day to sign the papers we both needed to and I worked that night. He was very scared and unsure and went Vince brought his crate in the house, he did come out but just hid behind the couch. Blossom tried to get him to play and puppy bowed but he was just to stressed and worried and so she let him be.
When I came home, he barked at me and was in defensive mode but that got him out from behind the couch. He started playing with Blossom and then he let Vince and I pet him Since then Blossom and him have become inseparable. They love each other. They were simply meant to be that is obvious.
We did change his name though to Comet which was rather appropriate given how he loves to zoom around the house. We think he is an Eskie/Papillion mix we defiantly see Eskie traits in him as that is a breed, we are familiar with but Papillons are new to us. From what I have read he has a lot of classic pap traits to. We love him and so does Blossom!
