I made this project for Rob for Laura;s altered cigar box swap. I know that Rob likes nature journals so I made that the theme for the box and also made a hand stitched journal that fits perfectly inside the box. The paper is Spring Botanic by Stamperia. I also used some images that I took from upcycled book pages and aa vintage Audubon bird card.

The top of the box has embellishments that reflect both nature and art. The vials are very old china paints. I left them with the paint included. I had planned to glue the corks in place but I couldn’t get them out. I worried every time I flipped the lid open, but after handling the box quite a bit the vials held up just fine. I chose the paint colors to coordinate with the, papers. I made the gerbera daisy with a spellbinders die set. This is a fussy flower to make because the petals are cut out separately, but I really love a gerbera daisy with striped petals. I made the large old paper butterfly with a Tim Holtz bigZ die. The body is made from an old watch part vial. The beautiful foiled paper was packaging for old watch parts. The glass cabachons are vintage from my favorite jewelry wholesale warehouse. The paper scrolls and stacked papers are old book pages with a gold embossed piece on top. I had planned to use more handmade flowers but I wound up pulling more embellishments than I needed. The beautiful pink damsel flies are from Renea Bouquets.

I am posting some pics of the journal here but I will also do a separate posting with some details about how I made it.

Thanks so much for taking a look and for your comments. I appreciate your feedback.
