Amy had a great time at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs last March when we went to do our recon visit. The zoo is named 6th best in North America by USA Today. It's small, but it really packs a lot of punch in a tiny space and focuses on education and interaction.
The giraffe exhibit gives visitors an opportunity to feed the animals, for a small fee of course. Giraffes are Amy's favorite African wildlife, and she was absolutely thrilled to get a chance to get up close and personal with Rae, the youngest giraffe in the group, who was more than happy to meet and greet Amy and let her feed her a lettuce snack.
She also had a chance to talk to the keepers, and got really excited when one of them told her about the college intern program. She asked several questions about how it worked, how to apply, what she needed to have done in order to get accepted into the program… she was serious about it and it turns out that she only has one course left to take before she can qualify for admittance. She is tremendously excited about the prospect.
