This is a very simple LO I did for one of the elsie challenges...#39 I think.

It all about the journaling, something I'm really trying to do better at.

The journaling reads:

For as long as I can remember,
a “Santa in the Chair” has sat underneath
the Christmas tree each year.
My parents divorced when I was only 5.
Mom work two, sometimes three
jobs to support four small children.
But she always made sure that we
had what we needed. Sometimes that
meant tracing our feet to go buy us new shoes
because our shoes were too worn out
to even wear to go buy new ones. I
developed a taste for delicacies like
corn meal mush and ‘princess fingers’,
which I later learned were nothing
more than a piece of bread slathered
with butter and sugar and cut into
sticks. I remember thinking that it
was a treat to have pancakes for
dinner, a tradition that I carried on
while raising my own son alone.
Another tradition that I carried on was the ‘Santa in the Chair’. Each year Mom would go to the second hand shops downtown a look for a ‘new’ Christmas decoration to add to our collection. One year it was a set of beautiful glass bulbs with snow scenes and dancing ladies on them. Another year, it was an elf made from felt that we kids would take turns hiding around the living room for the others to find. But one year, it was the “Santa in the Chair”. As we got older, the four of us realized how much it meant to each of us. Who would it be handed down to after Mom was gone? Would a family argument ensue? Then one year, while on vacation with my mom and step-father in Branson MO., we went into a shop that sold Christmas items all year long. Lo and behold, Mom found EXACT replicas of the “Santa in the Chair”!! She bought four of them and gave each of us one for our own Christmas tree. Mine has been under my Christmas tree every year since my son was two years old. Robert, the youngest of us four, has been given the honor of keeping the ‘original’ one after a family vote. But since I have had mine for 25 years, it is just as special to me. I found another replica of the “Santa in the Chair” on, of all places. Ebay and bought it for my son who is grown and has a family of his own. He displays it under their tree each year. I hope it holds as many memories for him as it does for me. ~~~Jan-2007~
