While living in Japan during the 80s, my mom took the opportunity to teach me more about my cultural heritage. One of the things we did was dress up in kimono and had our hair done in the traditional style then visit a local shrine. Though I didn’t realize it at the time, it truly was a special experience and one I only got to do again when I turned 21 and happened to be visiting during my dad’s second tour with the Embassy. ... (And GRRRRR to the alphabet sets that NEVER come with enough vowels. I never have enough As or Es or Os to make the titles I really want!)
