This is very cool, and what great journaling! It's great that you got to go back and take the tour, even if it was some time later. I love the journaling in a half circle like that, as well. Great take on the sketch!
amazing photos. that last photo almost looks like Hawaii I lived there (stationed there) in 1998. As soon as I saw it, I thought it was Hawaii until I saw it was Japan. So cool!
The journaling reads: Every year, Jack Moyer, who taught a class, “Japan Lands and Its People, would take the 7th grade class (ASIJ) to Miyake-Jima. A long-time resident of the the volcanic island, Mr. Moyer taught about the local farming and fisheries. When we moved to Japan, I had missed out so my mom helped arrange a private visit in 1981.
This class trip was really significant amongst the students and they talked about it all the time (and, those who went, still do!). While I wish I could have gone with classmates, the private tour Mr. Moyer and his assistant gave was fantastic, and we probably ate better food :)
