Farmhouse? Must have been the Lord of the Manor I think - with that size and style of bed and not 6 to a bed like everyone else in England in the 1600's! there are still one or two houses in my village (in the UK) dating back from that time, quite often with the dates on them, but they have small pokey rooms which the owners often enlarge and extend if they are allowed to - though listed buildings are not usually allowed to be altered! The smokiness is very familiar - my brother's small house has an enormous fireplace with blackened walls each side!

This reminds me of homes in England from around this time period! The house really did get smoky!
