Ok, here's the story. I rarely had a day off from work so when I did I took full advantage. Adam had a game at 5:45p. I made arrangements to pick up his teammate and best friend Colby at 9:00a to make a trip to Louisville and tour the Louisville Slugger Museum. It's only about an hour up the interstate and I knew I could get us all back to Lexington and to the field for pregame warmups. We made it to Louisville in record time and and thoroughly enjoyed all that the museum had to offer. After we watched the bats actually being made we made a quick stop at the gift shop(that was for me). It was about 2:00p when we left the museum and I realized that none of us had eaten since we had made a quick stop at McDonald's at about 9:15a. I had more then enough time to stop at Applebee's for a good 'sit down' lunch so that the boys would be well fed before the game. There was my mistake. When the waiter asked for our drink orders both boys ordered chocolate shakes and one ordered tator skins and the other fried mozz. sticks for appetizers. No problem. Everything is right on schedule and everyone's happy to be getting a full stomach. I had stepped away to look at the local memorabilia on the walls and to step the the rest room (not knowing that while I was gone the waiter had come back to the table and the boys ordered another round of chocolate shakes). For their meals one had ordered the patty melt sandwich platter the other had settled on the chicken finger basket. The food was great. Both boys seemed happy and asked if they could have a chocolate shake for the road. Not knowing about the second shake order I said they could. Right now I am not in the running for Team Mom of the Year that's for sure. We get the car pointed back towards Lexington and shortly there after I notice that neither of the boys are very active. I asked the normal questions about being tired from the trip or being so full that they needed a nap-trying to get back in the running you see. Unfortunately, I quickly realized that both boys jaws had become very sullen and they were both pale. As pale as I'd ever seen someone. After a few questions with week voiced responses it came to my attention what had went down back at Applebee's. Needless to say when we made it to the field my husband (the coach) was not very pleased with me. I made a run down to the convenient store and bought some Pepto. Didn't help much but, I was trying to fix the problem. The game would have to be forfeited if the boys didn't play due to the number of players we had available. The umpire told Colby that if he puked on his plate he would be cleaning it up. The game was played, both boys did too. It wasn't pretty that's for sure. They even won. We don't know if their team was that good or the team they played was that bad. All I know is I will never take baseball players out on game day ever again. I promise.
