Journaling: We went out to check out the moon but didn’t see much. Found out later that to see it we had to be up before the moon set in the early morning hours. I got some pictures from the Web.

A total lunar eclipse occurred on January 31, 2018. The Moon was near its perigee on January 30 and as such may be described as a "supermoon", when the Moon's distance from the Earth is less than 360,000 km (223,694 miles). The previous “supermoon” lunar eclipse was in September 2015.

This spectacular lunar event, called a "Super Blue Blood Moon," features the second full moon of the month, also known as a Blue Moon, as well as a total lunar eclipse, which is often referred to as a "blood moon" because the moon turns a reddish color when it passes through Earth's shadow.
