Journaling reads: The hubcap had been in the road for days. I noticed it a hundred times, knowing I should pick it up and throw it away, but never did. Holly came over one afternoon. She looked out the window and noticed the ghetto gleam of the tire dust covered hubcap. “We have to have it!” she screamed, running down the stairs, out the front door and across the street, probably not even stopping to look for traffic. She brought it upstairs with a huge smile and instantly knew she would turn the amazing find into some major bling for Dan. We cleaned it off a little bit, but not much and tried to find something to hang the huge medallion from. Finally, we settled on duct tape (really it was all we had; a chain would have been tiight). We hung our finished creation above Dan’s bed and anxiously waited for him to come home from school.
