I love that you were able to look through the different telescopes that were set on different things! The moon would have been fascinating to me! I just can't imagine how awesome it would be to see it through one of those telescopes!
The photos are taken from the Observatory's website. I wanted to be able to document this party. It was an outside amphitheater and the guide used a laser to point to certain stars and constellations above us.

Journaling: The Milky Way is visible but unfortunately, there is some cloud cover so we are unable to see all stars in the constellations. After that we are allowed to walk around the Rebecca Gale Telescope Park, and encouraged to look through some telescopes setup. There are people there to help and explain at each one. There are 3 dome telescopes (permanent) and at least 6 others (temporary) set up around the park. The Wren-Marcario Accessible Telescope (WMAT) sits on a concrete pad and is 100% wheelchair-accessible. Each telescope is focused on different parts of the heavens and we can go from one to another. Through one we were able to see the middle star of the Big Dipper's handle – we saw 2 stars but in actuality it is a 3 star cluster. On another telescope we were able to see Jupiter and 4 of its moons. Another one was focused on Castor (part of the Gemini constellation) and its stars. The moon was showing at 2 of the telescopes – long lines at them. We waited and finally got in line for the telescope in one of the domes to see the moon. We were lucky as the clouds had cleared when we got up there. We were able to see the moon in all its glory. It was amazing to see the “seas” or craters in such detail and the mountains looked so big! Awesome night! It was late when we got back to the RV – close to midnight. I am glad that we don't have to travel far tomorrow – only about 100 miles so we can sleep in a bit. We will stay at Fort Stockton for the night and then drive to Peach Country RV Park in Stonewall (outside Fredericksburg) the next day.
