At Oakwood Cemetery July 2018 This is the large granite monument to Sam Houston who is buried here. Wasn't sure what to use for this 2 pager. I used some gray cs and a marble pp (Asuka). A few Texas stickers and some stars and enamel dots (Altenew).

Sam Houston died July 26, 1863 from pneumonia. He was buried the next day in this self-chosen grave near his friend, Henderson Yoakum. A Masonic funeral was held in the upstairs parlor of the Steamboat House, then located ¼ mile from this site. His family and friends traveled this distance in a rain storm during the funeral.
On the 75th anniversary of the battle of San Jacinto, the state of Texas erected this monument on April 21, 1911, to the memory of Sam Houston. The Honorable William Jennings Bryan spoke to the hundreds of people in attendance proclaiming General Houston to be a national hero as well as a great Texas patriot.
The monument is of Texas gray granite and represents Houston as the General in command of the Texas Army,. On the left is the figure of “Lady Victory” and on the right is “Lady History.”
The inscription on the monument’s east side is thought to have been worded by Houston’s youngest daughter, Antoinette, who was in attendance at the ceremony. The wrought-iron fence which surrounds the grave site is designed with inverted battle-axes, symbolizing “Peace, the battle is over.”
