My first mixed media upcycle project! This started as a white melamine plate that is a hand-me-down from my parents' move, then was a plant dish, then lazy susan liner before finally serving as one of SamSam's food dishes.

I gesso'd the plate then painted it with two shades of blue acrylic paint. I slid on a trimmed piece of Dress My Craft transfer sheet and coated it with ModgePodge to seal. Using gift-wrap tissue paper and more ModgePodge, I smushed it around to make the ocean floor. I painted it with a little watercolor paint then dabbed on Art Anthology sand paste and color medium to add more texture. I sprayed the shells with Dylusions sprays (was surprised the color took), dabbed on the leftover paint from the previous step and added a little glitter for sparkle. There's a pearl in the clam shell (for the Daily Inspiration challenge). I also added some black sand bits and Reneabouquet micro beads with gel medium. For the Reneabouquet mermaid, I started with watercolors, layered on Wink of Stella to give her some shimmer and used an alcohol marker to color the edges.

All in all, I like how this turned out!
