Even though I could have driven the 20 minutes from Oxford to St. Michaels, I wanted the experience of driving my car onto the Talbot, the ferry that goes back and forth between the two towns. It was only a 15 minute ride or so but very scenic and relaxing. Plus I learned a few things - all on the journaling card (that has a picture of the captain's cabin): The tiny cabin at the top of the ladder is called the Pilot House. In addition to the captain, it houses the engine controls, radars, radios and two steering wheels facing opposite directions. Why? Because this boat is a double-ender with no bow or stern. Therefore, the Talbot has 2 engines, 2 propellers and 2 rudders so it never needs to turn...the captain just moves from one wheel to the other!
