I have long admired the beautiful cards made by Loll Thompson. Some of her cards feature torched copper. I bought the Sizzix die because of one of Loll's cards. I bought the Mini Cubist Stencil because of another of Loll's cards. Here they are together. The card design is copied from one of her cards. Thank you, Loll.
I made seventeen of these in a 24-hour period by working on them assembly-line fashion, a little at a time.
Comment: When using a heat gun to heat a half sheet of copper, it took forever for the copper to change colors. Since Loll uses a butane torch, that wasn't a problem. She said that smaller pieces heat more rapidly so you have less control if you die-cut first and heat last. That worked great for me since I was using a heat tool--anything to speed things along. The die-cut pieces changed colors quickly but not so quickly that I lost control of the color changes.
The second card shows what the tree looks like when following Loll Thompsons advice to run the die-cut through the embossing machine to avoid sharp edges. I prefer to use her alternate suggestion; I added a cardstock tree to the back. The sharpness isn't much of a problem since the die rounds the edges, and the sharpest part is facing the card base.
