The double matting really makes these photos stand out. I didn't know they had spots in the winter. If I've ever seen them that way, I didn't know it was the same bird. Also didn't know about the historical aspect either. Wonder how many other species were released for the same reason?
I've seen these before but didn't know what they were. These look like they have some colorful patches on them and I never noticed them having any color. Great photos. I love the ones that show the color in them. Just never realized they had any color!
It still amazes me all of the starlings in North America came from 100 birds set loose in New York's Central Park in the 1890s. The birds were released by a group who wanted America to have all the birds that Shakespeare ever mentioned. They are quite pretty if caught in the sun.
