First of four birthday cards I need to complete by the end of the weekend.
I've had sunflowers on my mind, so this slimline is what I came up with to start out. I wanted a blue background, and I selected this dark navy/midnight colored patterned paper from Craft Consortium, Hackney & Co "Tell the Bees" special edition paper.
I first stamped on Strathmore series 500 hot press water color paper using Ranger Tim Holtz Archival ink in Ground Espresso, then I watercolored the sunflower using a water painter brush with ink pad inks smooshed on acrylic blocks. I "fussy cut" the sunflower and leaves after die cutting because I decided I didn't want to have the white edge around the die cut. I'm terrible at fussy cutting, it took me 20 minutes. I finished off the edges by using a brown water-based marker to hide any white bits after.
I finished the card off with some cork paper, foil die cuts, and an embossed sentiment on the front. I kept the insert simple, I haven't decided, yet, whether to add a smaller sunflower inside. I decided not to add "bling."
