Photo of my husband's hats from his time in the Air Force. I used Authentique Younster Collection (I might have gotten this at Amazon), and the words paper is an old piece from Echo Park - For the Record - Newsprint. I cut various sized strips from different papers in the collection. I stamped the background with some light gray inks with two different stamps...the triangles (Hero Arts) and the grid stamp is also Hero Arts. I added dark blue nuvo drops around the layout where there were dots in the grid stamping. I punched one inch and 1/2 inch circles and scattered them around the page, with some adhered flat and some popped with foam tape. The title work was created with the Silhouette program and cut out with the Cameo. I inked the edges of all paper with vintage photo distress oxide. The tag at the bottom of the layout is a verbal description of what a Drill Sergeant is:

As a drill sergeant you are responsible for coaching, counseling, and mentoring of hundreds, if not thousands, of Soldiers as you transform them from a civilian to a combat-ready Soldier. A typical day as a drill sergeant starts before dawn and you are with your Soldiers until it is time for lights out.

I added journaling under the blue striped photo mat and it reads:

During Butchs military career, he served in many different areas. One of the many things he did was a stint as a Drill Instructor (or drill sergeant) at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He always preferred to be call a Drill Instructor. This hat is the one he wore during that time period. He also had what we lovingly referred to as his drill sergeant voice!

Thanks so much for stopping by!
