Who knew there was a World Watercolor Month? Anyway...

Before I realized there was such a thing, I wanted to try something a little different with the watercoloring of my sunflower stamp using ink pad inks. I did a search for other colors of sunflowers, and I found an absolutely gorgeous, mostly purple, photo that I wanted to try and replicate.

It didn't work out that way, the first was a total mess, with a big blob for the center. The second wasn't much better, and was *too* messy when I decided to try messy. This is attempt #3. It does not look anything like the photo, but it uses all the pretty colors included in the flower (I wonder if it really was real), and it's kind of wild, but I like it and I had fun.

"Kitchen Sink," because I just kept adding on. I really need to find a way to curb myself, sometimes. I had decided to add a dragonfly to match the flower. I had to fussy cut him, even though I have a punch, because the punch did not like the watercolor paper and I just had to salvage the bug. I messed up a little on the head, so a gem became his new head.

I started with stamping both images with a light gray archival ink on Strathmore hot press watercolor paper; I also used a purple archival ink when finished watercoloring to let the details stand out again on the flower, and a blue archival for the dragonfly. (A stamping platform is absolutely essential, to be able to line up an image multiple times.)

Once again, the shimmer is not visible, but the background paper, flower and dragonfly all got the isopropyl alcohol and shimmer paint spritz treatment.
