I cut 4 inch squares from coordinating Simple Stories papers for the background. This way I could use many patterns without having them compete for attention. The photo was single matted with a thick, solid border to help it stand out. Washi tape from the same family was layered over the photo and lower squares of paper. Snowflakes and a title were cut using Cricut and finished up the layout.
