From my days at Green Door (2009-2016); the organization, sadly, closed its door in 2017. The journaling reads: Green Door was a community mental health services organization. Most of the members represented the most vulnerable and underserved residents of DC. The Clubhouse (which was a separate service under the broader mental health case management and therapy) provided real-life skills training and a place for them to grow. We were very luck to have a Mary Kay representative donate 20+ makeup bags (stuffed full of makeup and skincare products), and teach proper makeup techniques. For our women, feeling and looking good was so important for their recovery - increasing their self-confidence, self-respect and self-care.
A select number of staff were also invited to play along and we had so much fun. More importantly, it was so rewarding and almost humbling to see just how much this meant to the women.
