Hi There! My next junk journal is a Little Mermaid themed one. I started with a Little Mermaid Golden Book and turned it into a 2 ½ junk journal. My goal is to allow the story to be read, but add lots of places to journal, so I made most of the inserts removable. That way I dont waste space where I cant write, but I can still read the story!

Heres how I prepped the book. Little Golden Books have a staple binding, so by pulling on the binding very gently the staples can be opened. This allows the pages to remain attached to each other, so I can sew them into my new binding along with some other types of pages.

The Little Mermaid Golden Book was in two sections, and I want to keep the pages in the same order, so my junk journal is readable. This means I need to have two signatures in my junk journal.

I sewed the signatures onto a new spine made from layering Tyvek and scrapbook paper. Left the strings long, so I could add some buttons and charms to dangle under the journal.

Next I glued the covers to a piece of scrapbook paper that is a 1/4 wider than my spine. I placed the covers on top of the scrapbook paper, so I dont cover any of the grap hic on the book cover. Finally I glued my new spine (with the signatures sewn to it) to the inside of both covers. Now I have a flexible spine that lays flat.

Please stop back to see all the fun, removable inserts I made for this junk journal.

Happy Scrapping!
