My dh at about 19 when he was finishing basic training in the Army. This picture belonged to his parents and they left it for me because they knew how much I loved it!
Journaling: Shortly after high school graduation in May 1959, Audie left for basic training in Fort Carson, Colorado. Following basic training, he was stationed at Fort Devens, Massachusetts for specialist training in the Army Security Agency. The remaining two years of his enlistment were spent at Menwith Hill near Harrogate, England. He was never in combat during his Army years; however, the Cuban Missile Crisis and the "Cold War" were significant to his job duties in the ASA. While his parents instilled strong moral and ethic values, the Army provided him with the ambition and desire to achieve more than he would have ever dreamed had he not joined the military.
